Vets League 20th May - Men 's team report
Our second match went rather better than the first and we finished a comfortable fourth (behind Epsom, Walton and Hercules) and now lie 5th overall. We did have gaps (m35 1500, m40 5000, m50 Pole Vault and m60 Long Jump, and we lost a key team member to a family virus, so there is still scope for improvement in the remaining matches.
The match saw Adam Bellis and Steve Simmonds making winning debuts in the 400m and Hammer respectively. Andy Gordon (who did the m35 100m) joined Ollie Oladele (m40 400), Adam, and Andy Arbour (m40 1500m) in giving Walton a close race in the Medley Relay (200m, 200m 400m and 800m) at the end of the meeting.
Draco Mkpa would have been on the relay team but injured his hamstring in the m40 100m.
We had good 2nd places from Jon Cook (m50 5000m), Rob Lowe (m40 Discus) and Frank Schubert (m50 Discus), and the rest of our team was Robin Shaw, Cashel Riordan, Rupert Bole, David Barrington (who found time to toss a hammer between ably organising the match and being marksman), Geoff Reed , David Bell, and Mike May.
Next match is at Ewell Court on 24th June

SVAC report by Nicky Atkins
Our second match was a home match at Kingsmeadow. This proved to be an exciting evening of high scores, PB’s and a win in the medley relay!! We welcomed Debbie Raymond’s coming of age in the vets/masters league where she enjoyed a successful evening. We managed to fill in all the events except in the over 60 age group……
We had 1st place positions from Nicki Murphy, Debbie Raymond and Clare Nelson in the 400m, Susanne Dietrich, Nicki Murphy in the long jump and Camilla Thrush in the hammer. Three women achieved PB’s both Clare Nelson and Debbie Raymond in the 400m and Liz Richardson in the 1500m.
The most exciting event of the evening was the medley relay; we even managed two teams. The scoring team consisted of Clare Nelson, Susanne Dietrich, both 200m, Debbie Raymond (400m) and Liz Richardson (800m) who won by a massive 15.9 seconds in front of Epsom and Ewell. Hooray!
The non-scoring team consisted of Nicki Murphy, Rosaline Darby (both 200m), Caroline Jeffcote (400m) who had a spot of bother with her attire and Nicky Atkins (800m). The non-scoring team was 20.5 seconds behind Epsom and Ewell.
We eventually came 2nd in this match, because of the lack of over 60’s, 20 points adrift from Epsom and Ewell. We are laying 2nd overall.
Thanks to the team who competed: Susanne Dietrich, Clare Nelson, Nicki Murphy, Debbie Raymond, Caroline Jeffcote, Liz Richardson, Rosaline Darby, Camilla Thrush and Gill Broderick.
Our third match will be on Monday 24th June at Ewell Court with Epsom & Ewell Harriers hosting.
